Psychotherapy for adolescents, families, and adults.
Compassionate and direct therapy specializing in attachment wounds, trauma and EMDR, substance use, difficult family dynamics, and life being hard.
Reaching out to someone to walk alongside you on your journey can be… daunting? Strange? Exciting? Life can be weird, and hard, and we just don’t have to do it alone. Maybe you are ready to dive right in or maybe you prefer to move at a slower pace. It’s okay to not even know where to start, or what to feel. I meet you where you are.
My work focuses on helping college students, adolescents, and adults, especially those who have histories of trauma, are adopted, struggling with substance use, experiencing severe depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, and life transitions. This is my passion- to help connect the dots, to help relieve the heaviness, to help you be your best self. With families, I deeply value working with dyads, triads, and whole systems to address emotional or circumstantial difficulties. Healing the family system means we are healing the individual members, too.
I prioritize the relationship we will share with each other in the work we do, as research has continuously shown this is a significantly important factor for change to occur. I do this by routinely checking in to see how the process is feeling for you, if we need to slow down or speed up, and ensuring you feel safe in the space. It is not always easy to welcome someone into the deepest parts of your self and it is important we get to know each other first so we can establish this trust.
We may carry a lot of shame, and therapy is the space to illuminate the you who came before it. Sometimes we just need someone to talk to, and sometimes we need someone to help us process hurtful experiences that continue to affect us. A therapist does not “fix” you, because you are not broken. Sometimes we need a safe place to do our thinking and not fear being judged for it.
Welcome. I’m glad you are here.
Kristin Sharp, LCSW-S
Owner, Therapist, Supervisor
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Board-Approved Clinical Supervisor in the state of Texas, and received both my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Masters of Science degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin, where I am also an Adjunct Faculty Professor in the Steve Hicks School of Social Work. Hook ‘em!
I have worked with teens, young adults, and families in various settings, including treatment centers, the child welfare system, psychiatric hospitals, non-profits, schools, and individual therapy practice. I knew very early into my career that these were the age groups I felt most inspired to help. My approach is relational, trauma-informed, and attachment focused. I integrate a range of modalities and approaches into my work with clients depending on what will be most useful and supportive to their style.
This is truly my passion and I feel honored when I am let into my clients’ world.
Our Services
-
Teens
I have seen that I am able to deeply connect with this population. I provide them with a space to show up as they are, and approach them in a relatable and relational way. I give them autonomy and control in the therapy process which allows for the open-exploration of issues they are facing.
-
Families
I approach issues with curiosity and directness. We are in a safe space to discuss the hard stuff. The goal is to heal the wounds that are keeping the dynamic within the family in the same cycle. Whether it is an issue between one parent and a child or the entire family unit, we can work towards repair and improved communication.
-
Adults
Whatever the challenge may be, my goal is to follow your lead with what you feel is a priority to you. We can process parts of you that are conflicted or ways of coping that aren’t working. If you’re feeling weighed down, lost, confused, we can discover the origin and learn new ways of going forward.
-
EMDR
EMDR can be the primary approach of our work together or can be utilized as you need, in addition to talk therapy. EMDR is a structured approach and is an effective option for individuals who experience difficulty talking about their traumatic experiences or who have not had success in traditional talk therapy.
